Welcome to TwoKidsOneWorld, our little corner of the internet where we’ll be sharing the highs, lows, meltdowns (adult and child alike), quiet moments, and wild adventures of our family’s yearlong trip around the globe.
But before we dive into tales of tuk-tuks and temples, layovers and landmarks, we wanted to introduce ourselves.
We’re the Pupko-Popes. A family of four from Brooklyn, NY — soon to be a family of four on the move.
Mike (Dad)
That’s me. I just wrapped up 15 incredible years as the Executive Director of Youth Represent, a nonprofit legal organization I love deeply. It’s hard to overstate how proud I am of the work we did — fighting for social and racial justice, standing alongside young people, building something meaningful. And with people I truly, deeply care for. Stepping away was not easy. But this trip, this time with my family, felt like a once-in-a-lifetime chance we had to take.
Elisa (Mom)
Elisa is the heart of our family — and the founder of Treasure Trunk Theatre, an amazing child’s theatre company that she built from scratch and now runs an incredible organization with a rockstar team. She’s an actor, a female founder, and a fearless explorer. She’s been dreaming about this kind of trip for years, and now gets to live it — all while running her business from wherever we happen to be that week.
Evelyn (7)
Evie is our oldest, a bright, curious, theater-loving force of nature. She’s a performer through and through — just like her mom — except, as she likes to point out, she has blonde hair and blue eyes “like Daddy.” She’s thrilled about the trip and already planning her solo blog spinoff. Stay tuned.
Daxton (3)
Dax is our joyful, slightly chaotic sweet “little stinker.” He loves trains, planes, buses, boats — basically if it moves, he’s into it. He’s sweet, loud, unpredictable, and a bit (read, a lot) obsessed with Mom.
This trip is about more than just seeing the world. It’s about stepping away from our routines, challenging ourselves, and getting to know each other, and the world, more deeply — outside the rush of work and school and city life.
We’re lucky. We know that. We don’t take for granted that we get this time together — with our kids still young, their hands still small in ours, their questions endless, their joy contagious.
And throughout this adventure, we’re so glad you’re here with us — family, friends, fellow wanderers. Thanks for following along. We’re excited (and, okay, a little terrified) to see where this adventure takes us.
More soon —
Mike
